Bernard "Bud" McMillan, age 91, of Grand Junction, CO, passed away August 1, 2015 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Grand Junction.
Born January 26, 1924, in Kemmer, Wyoming, he was the son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Reed McMillan. He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served on 3 different aircraft carriers during World War II.
He met and married the love of his life, Louise Elizabeth Speck. The loving couple celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on June 12 2015.
Bud had been employed as an installer for theTelephone CO and over the years had been involved in many other fascets in the communications industry. Perhaps the most significant aspect of Bud's working career was building the communications system for the Signal Corp. to be used whenever the President of the United States traveled outside of Washington D. C. Having built the system and knowing its operation, Bud was desiginated to travel to other states to do the communications for the U.S. Presidents as they traveled. Bud worked for and with Presidents Eisenhour, Johnson and Nixon.
Bud referred to the Western slope as "God's Country". He loved the Lord, and he and Lou were Charter Members of All Saints Lutheran Church in Austin, CO. Bud l oved campi ng, fishing, hunting and playing golf. Most of all, he loved taking care of Louise. He was a loving family man who never missed an opportunity to tell a corny joke. He was an awesome husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Bud was loved by many and liked by many more. He was d efinitely one of a kind and will be truly missed.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Elizabeth Speck McMillan, a daughter, Cynthia Louise McMillan-Empkey and her husband, Robert O. Empkey,of Bro omfield, CO, a son Donald Lee McMillan, and his wife Gigi Lee McMillan,of Cedaredge, CO, four grandchildren, Heather Louise Empkey, and her husband Matthew David Thorp, Holly Lynn Empkey and her wife, Rhiannon Jean Davis, Terrence John McMillan, and his husband, Mark Bannon, Donnelle Rene McMillan and Jessica Rodriguez, Seven great grandchildren, Zackery, Ramzey (deceased), Gaberyel, Madilynn, Mason, Amber and Jordyn .
Memorial Servies will be Friday, August 14, 2015 at l0 a.m. at All Saints Lutheran Church, 20101 Deer Creek Road, Austin, CO 81410,
Committal Service will follow at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado at 3 p.m. Military Honors by Grand Valley Combined Honor Guard.
Memorials may be made to All Saints Lutheran Church.
