Duane K. Antiel passed from this adventure to the next on August 28th, 2015 after a short but courageous battle with cancer. He died peacefully at home in Grand Junction, CO, surrounded by his loved ones, both present and in spirit. Duane began his life journey on Nov. 10th 1956 as the oldest of 5 born to Rose Marie Antiel (Newcomb) and Eugene Antiel in St. Paul, MN. He spent his youth running around Mendota, MN, and surrounding areas creating lifelong memories with his many family and friends. His adult life was spent between Minneapolis and Albert Lea, MN, making more friends and earning the nickname “Gilligan” along the way. On August 28th 1982 he married his love, Natalie Hubbs, with whom he had 2 children, Keith and Suzanne. They later divorced but remained friends and still loved one another in their own way till the end. Duane was an avid nature lover and enjoyed his time outdoors by raising Monarch butterflies, gardening, camping, fishing, hiking and teaching his children, nieces, nephews and grandchildren to do the same. He also loved animals of any kind and treated his many pets as children. Duane shared his enthusiasm for life with all that met him and lived life “his way” no matter what… he was quite the individual, never following but always leading. With his baby blues and bushy brows angled, he could talk anyone into anything and often did! Preceding him in death is his father, Eugene Antiel; mother, Rose Marie Antiel (Ronald “Butch” Hanson); his sisters, Deborah and Rosemary; and many more loved ones. Duane is survived by his son, Keith Hubbs of Fruita, CO; his daughter, Suzanne Gendoes (Michael) of Grand Junction, CO; his 7 grandchildren (Suzanne’s children), Kristopher, Kayleen, James, Jacob, Michael, Natalie and Nicholas; his brother, David Antiel (Julie) of Kimball, MN; his sister, Theresa McEachern (Kevin) of Waverly, MN; an “adopted” daughter, Elizabeth Hubbs (Solomon) of Clifton, CO; an “adopted” grandchild, Brooke; a “step” daughter, Kim Emerson (Shaun) of Big Lake, MN; 2 “step” grandchildren, Katlyn and William; many beloved cousins, nephews, nieces, family and friends that will remember him always! A remembrance for Duane will be held in Grand Junction, CO in late September, followed in mid-October by a celebration of his life at the VFW in Mendota, MN. Exact dates will be forthcoming on his daughter’s Facebook page.
