Edna Ruth Jenkins Lange, age 83, died Monday, October 26, 2015, peacefully in her home following a brief illness.
She was born March 21, 1932, in Horse Creek, WY. She was the daughter of Floyd and Victoria Dooling Jenkins who have both preceded her in death.
Edna graduated from Central High School in Grand Junction, CO and after raising her children she later became a CNA working in the medical field for 27 years at several nursing home facilities in the Grand Valley.
She was married to Gerald Dean Lange in November of 1950, and together they had 5 children. Edna supported Gerald’s service in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. They later divorced but were able to remain friends. With Gerald she was a long time member of the FO of the Elks and the Moose Lodges.
Edna was a Christian woman who enjoyed spending time on her flowers and garden, canning, her country and western music, and hobbies such as needlepoint; but her favorite hobby was her peacocks. They would roam the neighborhood during the day, but came to her to feed in the evenings and then would roost in her trees at night. She loved taking care of them and collecting their feathers as they would shed them every year.
Although she wasn’t very outgoing in her final years, she was a woman of great strength and compassion with a great sense of humor. She often gave selflessly to family members in need.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 sisters and 2 brothers. She is survived by her children 4 sons; Jerry and Valerie Lange, James and Mellany Lange, both of Grand Junction, CO; David and Hannah Lange of Kansas; Donald & Letha (John) Lange of Clifton, CO; and 1 daughter; Elaine and Dean Southam of Carlin, NV; 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister Carol and Dale Lange of Grand Junction, CO; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, November 1, at 1:00 pm at The Church On The Rock, 2170 Broadway in the Redlands with a viewing to follow. A graveside service will follow on Monday, November 2, and 12:00 noon at Grand Junction Memorial Gardens at 2970 North Avenue, Grand Junction, CO.
