James Edward Boylan, 65, of Grand Junction, Colorado, passed
away on Monday, March 21, 2016 at Hope West Hospice Center. He was born
on April 13, 1950 in Peoria, IL to Joseph M. and Mary Ellen Purcell
Boylan. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Charlotte
Feakins Boylan; son, Gregory of Winter Park, Colorado; son, Jeffrey (Kristen)
and granddaughter, Tillie Grace of Castle Rock, Colorado. Also surviving
are his brother, Thomas (Janice) of Mapleton, Illinois and step-
nephew, Todd Brooks (Julie) and their daughter, Madison of Peoria, Illinois, and sister-
in-law, Margaret (William) McNinch of Georgetown, Texas. Jim’s parents and
sister, Janice Marita, preceded him in death.
Jim graduated from Bergan High School and Illinois State University,
majoring in geography which explains his life-long fascination with
maps. He worked for the Federal Government/Department of
Defense for 26 years and retired from military service after 32 years in
the Navy, Navy reserves, and Illinois Air National Guard. He moved
to Grand Junction from Dunlap, Illinois in 2010 and embraced
retirement with enthusiasm for hiking, camping, skiing, and traveling.
He will be fondly remembered for his careful planning, attention to
details and always having extra batteries for his GPS! He enjoyed
serving on Summer Hill Board of Directors and assisting with
neighborhood landscaping needs. Jim was a member of the Grand Junction
Outing Club and First United Methodist Church of Grand Junction.
We are grateful for Jim’s loving devotion to Charlotte, his sons, family,
friends, country, and life! He was a man of committed faith and love for God. We are all
blessed to have known this witty, adventurous, and honorable man. A memorial service will
be held in his honor at 4:00 p.m. on April 4, 2016 at First United Methodist Church. Donations in
his memory can be given to First United Methodist Church, Hope West Hospice, or the
Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at LLS.org.
