Judith Szabo

March 20, 1942 — February 5, 2016

Judith “Judy” Anne Szabo, age 73 died Friday February 5, 2016 in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Judy was born in Olathe, Colorado to Florice “June” Yates and William P. McCormick.

Judy graduated from Durango High School and was a member of Future Teachers of America, before relocating to Eastern Colorado to attend college focusing on accounting and finance. It was here where she met Vincent Szabo (dc) whom she would later marry.

Judy worked as bookkeeper and accountant for many of the businesses Vincent started until his death in 1977.  Judy raised four children and continued working in the accounting and administrative assistance fields. Judy later attended trade school and began an education path at Colorado Mesa University focused on drafting and architectural design. Judy took a break from college to raise her grandchildren Manyi and Christopher “Chris”.

Judy enjoyed sewing and embroidery which were skills her mother had taught her from an early age. Judy loved architecture and drawing designs for houses and gardens. Judy loved putting puzzles together. Judy love Asian art and culture especially the Japanese styles. What Judy most loved was the outdoors and the beauty of nature.  She loved long drives through the countryside and mountains and the feeling of cool fresh air.

A quote from Judy from when her mother passed away was “My love of crafts started at a very early age. Mom made a furniture set for me as a small child. Every year she would make things for us. She taught me to love working with wood, embroidery. How to sew from a handmade pattern and to appreciate the beauty of nature, to this day I stop in awe at a sunrise, a rainbow, a sunset, the colors in the fall. To mom the simplest things meant the most. Each time I see a rose I think of mom – I Love You Mom – Judy”

Judy was a “Sweet Gal” as testified by all the comments in her high school yearbooks. She was friendly and kind hearted. She was a jokester as is most of the family and had a great sense of humor. Judy was dedicated to family, and lived life with an open heart.

Judy is survived by four sisters Mary, Clara, Stella and Grace; four brothers John, Marvin, Chester and Warren; four children Vince, Joe, June and Frank; two grandchildren Manyi and Chris; and two great grandchildren Brianna and Elijah as well as dozens upon dozens of cousins and extended family members.

Judy requested to be cremated and her ashes distributed to her children and grandchildren so that they may honor her life in memoriam as they see fit. A share of her ashes is to be spread in the Rocky Mountains which she loved and Ocean. No traditional memorial service was to be planned and just a moment of reflection the next time the family would gather. If Judy would have had the time, I know she would want the last words to you all to be those that she spoke to her sister which were “I Love You Too”

To a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend “We Love You Too, Judy” and will miss you and remember you as you continue to live in our hearts.
