Anton Strasser

March 5, 1939 — May 26, 2021

On May 26, Anton Strasser finished his race. He ran the race well! Anton was born on March 5, 1939 in Jabuka, Yugoslavia. His family was one of the more affluent in the area, but all that changed when their homeland was invaded by the Soviet Union in World War II. Anton was placed in a concentration camp with his grandparents, where his grandparents were murdered. His mother and older sister were able to escape where they were being held, and they bribed a guard to set Anton free. Then came the long trek across Europe, to Paris, where they boarded a ship to come to America to start a new life. They settled in Los Angeles. Knowing no English, Anton would go to movies in order to learn his new language. Soon he was enrolled in public school. A skinny and shy young lady named Janet Sue Eddy did a bold move and invited Anton to a Cheat Dance. It wasn't long before they married and started a family. After a long career in construction and engineering, they decided to leave Los Angeles for the fresh air and open space of Grand Junction. Anton loved his life here. He loved fishing, gardening, swimming at Ouray, camping and going for rides in the mountains.

Anton was a devoted husband and father. He was the proud father of three children, Elizabeth Jean, Michael John, and Anton Robert, who was born with special needs. This son is the one that convinced Anton that he needed Jesus in his life. Praise God!

Anton is survived by his wife of 62 years, Janet Sue, his children, Elizabeth (James), Michael (Kerrie), and Tony. He was a devoted grandfather to Jonathon (Jennifer), Sarah, Amber, Joseph and Susan, and great-grandchildren Jeremiah, Gabriella, and James.

Anton sadly lost his life to Covid-19. If he were still here, he would tell everyone reading this notice to get vaccinated. It could save your life!

A memorial service for Anton will be held on June 10, 10:30 a.m., at CrossPoint Church, 2697 Highway 50, on Orchard Mesa in Grand Junction. We look forward to celebrating a life very well lived.
