Barbara Alma Soucek

Barbara Alma Soucek, 86, passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at Grand View Care Lodge in Grand Junction, CO. Born on February 4, 1937, in Columbia, TN, she was the daughter of Hilda (Wolters) and Edward Beale. When Barb was young, her father passed away, and they moved to Hastings, NE. Barbara graduated from Hastings High School and attended Hastings College in Hastings, NE. 

She married Dale Soucek on June 12, 1959, and they celebrated 54 years together. They had three children: Sandra, Stephen, and Paul. Barbara worked for Navigators, a Christian ministry, in Colorado Springs, CO. After retirement, Dale and Barbara loved owning and operating Pitkin Mesa Bed and Breakfast in Paonia, CO for 12 years. Barbara enjoyed using her gift of hospitality, was an avid shopper, a talented soprano singer, and a Red Hat Society member. She sang in Victory Voices in Colorado Springs with many musically inclined family and friends and often went on summer tours throughout Colorado and the Midwest. For over a decade, she sang for the North Fork Community Choir in Paonia, CO. Barbara proudly devoted her life to loving God, her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. 

Survivors include children Sandra Jean Sundstrom and her husband Dan of Grand Junction, CO., Stephen Jon Soucek and his wife Marva of Littleton, CO., and Paul Andrew Soucek and his partner Camille of Phoenix, AZ.; her eight grandchildren, Jonathan (Kate) Sundstrom, Joanna (Stephen) Rogers, and Julia Sundstrom, Courtney (Cody) Ross, Jacob, and Sydney Soucek, and Noelle and Nathaniel Soucek; her seven great-grandchildren, Aurora, Rosalie, and Eloise Sundstrom, Natalie Rogers, and Skye, Stevie, and Alden Ross; her nieces, Mary Epp-Jones and Lenore Epp, and other family members and friends. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Hilda and Edward Beale, stepfather, Nick Noel, beloved sister, Nancy Heeren, and her loving husband, Dale Soucek.

Visitation will be at 11 am on Thursday, January 11th at Brown's Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel. Graveside services will be Thursday, January 11th at 1 pm at Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado with Todd Laws officiating. The pallbearers will be Steve, Paul, Dan, Jon, Jacob, Stephen, and Cody. The honorary pallbearer will be Nathaniel Soucek. Memorials or donations may be made to Navigators. Celebration of life services will be in the spring of 2024; date and location are still to be determined.
