Betty Jean Burns died peacefully in Grand Junction, Colorado on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at the age of 82. Betty was born in Oak Creek, Colorado to Eugene and Mary Daugherty on July 24, 1933. After graduating from Oak Creek High School in 1951, she married Thomas C. Rossi from Phippsburg, Colorado. Betty and Thomas had 4 sons, Dennis Eugene, John Kenneth, Mitchell Dean and Bruce Neil.
Following a divorce, Betty married Robert Burns from Michigan. They made their home in Oak Creek until Robert’s untimely death in 1968. Betty trained in real estate and became a real estate broker selling properties throughout western Colorado. Betty and her youngest sister, Phyllis James, owned and operated a successful secretarial and answering service in Steamboat Springs, Colorado for many years.
Betty is survived by her four sons, Dennis (Grand Junction, CO), Kenneth (Seattle, WA), Mitchell (Toponas, CO), and Bruce (Oak Creek, CO); 2 grandchildren Carl and Mattie Rossi (Toponas, CO) and 1 step-grandson, Ton Sridi (Bangkok, Thailand).
Graveside services will be held at the Oak Creek Cemetery on Friday, April 8, 2016 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Diabetes Association in Betty’s name would be greatly appreciated.
