Grand Junction, Colorado resident, Beverly “Bev” June Malensek (age 86) passed away on February 13th, 2024 at Western Slope Memory Care surrounded by her family following a long battle with dementia. She was born in Somerset, Colorado on June 16th, 1937 and was the daughter of the late Oscar and Goldie (Turner) Dove.
She spent her childhood in Somerset and attended school in both Somerset and later Paonia, graduating from Paonia High School. Bev went on to further her education at Barnes Business College in Denver, Colorado. She briefly was employed as a secretary before turning her attention to raising her 3 children.
She married the love of her life, Rudolph “Rudy” Malensek, on 12/23/1956 in a short ceremony in Aztec, New Mexico. They later had a formal wedding with their family and friends in a Catholic Church in Menlo Park, California.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, sewing, crocheting, performing crossword puzzles and reading. Her daughter’s dolls always had multiple handmade clothes. She also enjoyed spending time in the mountains. One of her favorite activities was cooking in the outdoors for other people, especially on the 4th of July. She kept an immaculate house and graciously took care of her in-laws for many years. She was extremely dedicated to her family and friends.
There wasn’t a person Beverly couldn’t talk to. She was outgoing and was always able to see the positive in every situation. Her smile was infectious and she was rarely seen without one.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, brother (Lyle), sister (Peggy), aunts/uncles, cousins and son-in-law.
Bev is survived by her husband (Rudy); son Monte (Suzi); daughters Kim (LaMont) and Tammy; and grandchildren (Peggy, Kristy, Michael, Matthew, Nicholas and Zach). She also greatly enjoyed 10 great-grandchildren (Destiny, Jordyn, Dominic, Finnley, Henry, Zyler, Madelyn, Maya, Rachel and Neil).
A memorial service will be held on Monday February 26th, 2024 at 10 am at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado.
Please consider making a memorial contribution in Beverly’s name to HopeWest (hopewestco.org).
