Beverly Perrizo

Beverly Ann Wilson Perrizo, former Cottonwood resident, died Sunday, April 22, in Grand Junction, CO, at the age of 89 years and 5 days.

Bev was born April 17, 1929, in Flandreau, SD, to Harold and Luella (Corcoran) Wilson. Her family lived in Flandreau until moving to Jasper, MN in 1942. In 1945, job opportunities for her dad led them to Colorado Springs, CO. Bev attended her junior year of high school in Colorado Springs, then moved back to Flandreau to live with her grandparents. She graduated from Flandreau High School in 1947. She attended business school in Colorado Springs and South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD.

While her family lived in Jasper she met Marvin J. Perrizo, with whom she attended school. After Marvin returned from service in the US Navy, they were married in Colorado Springs on August 21, 1950.

Marvin and Bev lived in Minneapolis while he attended St. Thomas University and the University  of Minnesota School of Dentistry. During this time Bev worked at a bank in Minneapolis, then started to raise their children. In 1955, they settled in Cottonwood, MN, where Marvin practiced dentistry until a car accident took his life on Thanksgiving Day, 1971.

Beverly and Marvin lived a wonderful life in Cottonwood, raising their four children and being active in the community and at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. They made many long-lasting friendships and Bev always considered Cottonwood her home, even though she would live many more years in Colorado. Bev moved to Colorado Springs in 1977. She made her home there until 2014, then moved to Grand Junction. She entered a nursing home there in 2016.

Bev is survived by her children: Scott, of Boulder, CO; Lynn (Richard Raymond), of Grand Junction; Gail (Tom Guttormsson), of Minneota, MN; and Jim, of Fairbanks, AK; grandson Jared (Katie) Johnson and their children Addison and Ella; granddaughter Stephanie (Shawn) Lindstrom and their children Emily, Ryan and Jack. She is also survived by her sister, Dorothea O’Leary, of Colorado Springs, and a sister-in-law, Maxine Wilson, also of Colorado Springs, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Marvin Perrizo; brother, Wayne Wilson; brother-in-law and sister-in law, Barton and Marian Perrizo; and brother-in-law, James O’Leary.

A memorial service is being planned for a later date. Blessed be her memory.
