Carl was born February 14, 1947, to Carl R. and Sybil Garner in Grand Junction, Colorado. Carl graduated from Central High School. He joined the Salvation Army and served as an officer in Petersburg, Alaska. He married Jackie and they had two children. They divorced.
He joined the army and served as a medic and a dental therapist in Hawaii. After an honorable discharge, he worked at Grand Junction Regional Center until he retired.
In 1977 he married Gertrude Ann Garner. She died in 2011. Nick married Eileen Sommers on December 16, 2011, and they lived a happy life for 9 ½ years until his death on September 14, 2021.
He was the first player in the Two Rivers Cribbage Club to win the Bronze Award from the American Cribbage Congress for 1,000 games. He also loved to play Bingo. He volunteered at Gray Gourmet (Meals on Wheels) for 10 years.
Nick was proceeded in death by his parents, wife Anne, and stepdaughter Shannon. He is survived by his wife Eileen.
Funeral services with Military Honors will be Tuesday, October 12, at 1:00 P.M. at the Veterans Cemetery in Grand Junction. Reception to follow at Shepard of the Valley Lutheran Church. Donations may be given to SOV BLDG.FUND
