Charles Eugene Roberts passed away on August 20th at the age of 81. A legendary farmer, collector, hunter, and hiker, Chuck was born to Taylor and Ruby Roberts on March 25, 1943, in St. Louis, Missouri. His father briefly met him before being sent off to war and didn’t see him again for three years. In 1946, Chuck’s dad and Uncle Jack farmed in Grand Junction until 1949 when Chuck’s family moved to Mack, CO, and farmed on 10 Road. Chuck attended Mack School as the only student in 4th grade.
In 1953, at the age of 10, Chuck’s family bought the family farm in New Liberty, where he was put to work irrigating the many fields. After the death of his father, Chuck and his brother continued farming the family farm. Chuck and Steve were avid collectors of John Deere tractors and farm equipment. They joined the Antique Power Tractor Club and organized a free tractor pull and antique show for the public until 2012.
He married Carolyn Chamberlain on August 22, 1969, and together they had four children: Julie Kovach (Steve), Suzanne Roberts, Kurt Roberts (Penny), and Kimberly Roberts (Nels). He is preceded in death by his parents, Taylor and Ruby; his brother, Steve; his wife, Carolyn; his brother-in-law, Dave Hooker; and his son-in-law, Nels Thorson.
