Charles Allen Woodburn of Grand Junction, CO passed on 1/7/2015 at HopeWest Hospice Center at the age of 85. Memorial Services to be held at the Veterans Memorial Cemetary @ 1 p.m. on March 27, 2015. Charles was born on March 22, 1929 in Sharon Springs, KS to Frank and Ruby Woodburn. There he spent his childhood and attended grade school. Upon the passing of his father, Charles' mother remarried Glen Bear and they moved their family to Hotchkiss, CO where Charles attended High School. He was active in track and football and set records in 1947 for his performance in the quarter mile. He spent summers working his family's sawmill on Black Mesa. After High School, Charles entered the United States Military and was stationed in Panama for his period of service. In 1957 he met and married Albertine (Tena) Windholz of Derby, CO. As his family grew he supported their needs by learning the trade of sheetrocking/drywall finishing. He also spent time working in the coal mines when construction labor became scarce. Charles thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors and would spend free time hunting, fishing and exploring the outdoor world. Throughout the years his family spent time living around the valley, the Denver area and Temecula, CA. He spent the last several years living in Grand Junction enjoying his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and watching them grow up. He is survived by 2 daughters: Bobbi McNeal (widowed) and Leah Mangum (Kelly) of Grand Junction, CO, 3 stepchildren: Jack Dreiling (widowed) of Columbia, MO, Janet “Jannette” Sickles (Mason) of Hotchkiss, CO, and Gerald Degenhart (Jacque) of Thornton, CO, along with 9 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, 2 sisters, 1 granddaughter and 3 great-granddaughters.
