Clifford Deister was born in rural Kansas, and was the first in his family to receive a college degree, and a Masters in School Administration from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. He and his wife, Irene Crown Deister, taught for 33 years in Kansas and California. Cliff’s true calling and life work was as a preacher and sharer of his abiding faith as a preacher in the Church of Christ for 70 years. After retiring as a school teacher, he and his wife traveled in their motor home visiting and working with churches across the country.
Cliff was a musician, playing and teaching many instruments. He was an author of several books and many Bible studies. He enjoyed doing word games and puzzles, actively working them his entire life.
A loving family man, Cliff was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, his parents, Albert and Mable Deister; a brother, William Deister; a son, Rickey; and a grandson, Clinton Sparks. He is survived by his children, Lynn Sparks (Rick), Kathy Spoering (Craig), Julie Turner (Dale), Joel (Angela), and Chris (Linda); by 16 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Donations can be made to Hope West in Clifford's honor, and a graveside service will be held in Kansas in the spring.
