Dale Young

Dale Alvin Young, 76, loving husband and father, and native of Grand Junction, passed away of natural causes on the eve of April 28th, 2016. He graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1957 and attended Mesa College for two years

Dale overcame many obstacles in his life, to include Perthes disease as a child. He spent a year in bed, had surgery that fused the hip on his left leg solid during the fifth grade. Despite this, he worked in all facets of construction for over 50 years and never considered himself handicapped.  He worked as a Construction Superintendent for numerous companies, the last one being Shaw Construction, from which he retired due to health issues. A few of his projects were Franz Klammer Lodge I and II, Telluride; Mesa County Social Services Building, Grand Junction;  Primary Care Physicians Building, Grand Junction; and Westin Hotel, Vail.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 55 years, Sherlene (Armstrong) Young: his five wonderful children; Dalene (Joe Woodward) Chandler AZ; Danna Young, Fort Collins CO;  Dee (Laurence Hobbs JR) Stafford VA; Dale Young (Amanda) Aurora CO and Doug Young (Michelle) Olathe CO; 18 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Earl Young (Wife Floy) Grand Junction and sister Edna (Young) Wood (Husband Herb) Kuna ID and his Aunt Carrie Lou Gremel.  He was preceded in death by his parents W.H. Young and Ruth (Killough) Young.

He will be remembered by his children as a loving, supportive father, "the best daddy a child could ever have or hope for."

Funeral Service to be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday May 3rd at Brown's Funeral Home,904 N. 7th street Grand Junction. Burial will take place at Elm Wood Cemetery, Fruita, CO following funeral services. Thanks go to Hope West and Colorow Nursing Home for their support and kindness during our loss was greatly appreciated.
