Our beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, husband, cousin, and friend, Daniel Raymond Ames, passed away following a courageous battle with illness on December 12, 2023, in Grand Junction, Colorado. Dan was born in Burley, Idaho on December 27, 1957, to Lanny R. and Naomi Wright Ames.
Dan enjoyed an adventurous childhood, traveling the world during his father’s and later his own Air Force career. He lived in England, Alaska, and the Azores, as well as various states in the continental U.S. Dan was an active volunteer and Captain with the Sweetwater County Search and Rescue in Wyoming, spending hours helping others in the mountains that he loved. After retiring from the Air Force, he eventually settled in Grand Junction, Colorado, where he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service at the time of his death. It was in Grand Junction that Dan met the love of his life, Robin. The two of them enjoyed life together with their fur babies, traveling, camping, geocaching and simply spending time together. They only needed each other to make the world complete. Dan’s caring spirit and generous heart could be felt by anyone he encountered. In his own quiet, soft-spoken way, Dan had a special gift of not only seeing the good in people but bringing out the best in them as well.
Dan is survived by his beloved wife, Robin, (Grand Junction, CO); his father and mother, Lanny and Naomi Wright Ames (Kimberly, ID); sisters: Kay Searle (Heyburn, ID), and Brenda Ward (Burley, ID); children: Shawna, Jaime, Kendra, Tim, Todd, Brian and Jessica; 14 grandchildren, multiple nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, aunts, uncles, and a very special grandson, Rydder Ames.
A private family memorial will be held, with interment in the Snake River Canyon National Veterans Cemetery, Buhl, Idaho.
Remember that life is fragile and short and should be lived to the fullest. He will be missed more than any words could express, but he will be forever in our hearts. ‘Till we meet again.
