Daniel Hillsten

May 9, 1951 — June 24, 2020

Daniel (Dan) Lee Hillsten was born to Harold and Mary Hillsten on May 9, 1951 in Denver, Colorado.  On June 24, 2020 he passed away in Grand Junction, Colorado, after battling a chronic illness for many years.  Dan married Nona Catherine Camenisch, the love of his life, on June 13, 1970.  They celebrated the birth of their daughter Katrina LeeAnne Hillsten on December 18, 1974.  Dan was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard.  Living siblings include Gary (Antonetta) Hillsten, Cathy (Marshall) Hancock, and Tim Hillsten.  Dan is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Dan’s career included working as a Lab Technician in the Metallurgical Department at AMAX, Inc., in Golden Colorado.  Followed by a move to Blanding, Utah where he worked as a Metallurgist for Energy Fuels Nuclear, Inc. until 1982.  Dan also was an EMT volunteer in Blanding.

His career then brought him back to Denver to work as a Lab and Textile Engineer for the Gates Rubber Company for 23 years, where he traveled extensively both domestically and internationally. Dan ended his career back in Blanding, Utah with Energy Fuels as a Metallurgist, and then the Manager of the White Mesa Mill for 5 years. Dan and Nona retired and moved to Grand Junction, Colorado in 2016 to be near their daughter, Katrina.

Dan enjoyed time with family that often included hunting, fishing, camping, and ATVing.  His life was one well lived and loved.
