Danny Henry Rivera
09/06/1947 – 01/25/2022
It is with great sadness that I announce that Danny Henry Rivera has gone home to be with the Lord on January 25, 2022.
Danny was born to Henry and Maria Lucy (Trujillo) Rivera on September 6, 1947, in Alamosa, CO.
He spent his early years in the Olathe area, graduating in 1966 as an Olathe Pirate in Olathe, CO. After graduation, he joined the US Navy where he served during the Vietnam war with some time spent in Korea. While in the military, he earned a National Service Medal, 2 Vietnam Service Medals, 2 bronze stars, and an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for service in Korea. He received an Honorable discharge in 1970.
Once released from the military, he moved to Grand Junction and worked briefly in the residential/commercial uranium mill tailings removal field. He moved from there to the insulation board manufacturing plant in Fruita, CO where he had been employed for over 35 years and held several titles before retiring as a forklift operator.
He is preceded in death by his parents Henry and Lucy Rivera, his brother Manuel Rivera from Phoenix, AZ, his sister Carol (Rivera) Duran from Olathe, CO, and his son Trinity Rivera from Grand Junction, CO.
He is survived by his son (Leonard) Lenny Rivera (Grand Junction, CO) and his brothers Orlando Joe Rivera and Christ Rivera of Olathe, CO. He has 2 grandkids: Christopher Rivera (Cheyenne, WY), Mikayla (Rivera) Stocker (GJ, CO), and 2 great-grandkids: Everly and Colton Stocker. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins from the Rivera and Trujillo families in Southwestern Colorado, Arizona, and California.
All that knew Danny, knew that he had 3 big passions in life: family, classic cars, and going to yard sales and flea markets. He spent his time over the years owning and tinkering with several 56 Chevy Bel Air’s in addition to collecting and selling other classics, including his most current passion; his 66 Chevy Impala. If he wasn’t tinkering with classics, you could always find him at yard sales or attending a flea market somewhere. He loved spending time at the big flea market in Denver. He also enjoyed being in the outdoors hunting and fishing with family and friends.
He was a strong courageous man until the end who we loved so dearly and will be missed by many. He loved his family and friends deeply and was always there when someone needed help. The stories and memories we have of him will keep him in our hearts forever.
Services will be held, with full military honors provided, at the Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Grand Junction Colorado ion April 29th at 10:00 am. Please monitor the Browns Cremation and Funeral Services website for updated details.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you please send donations to the Wounded Warrior Project or any other veteran/military support groups in Danny’s name.
