David Scott

September 18, 1946 — October 16, 2019

David Newton Scott, “Scotty,” a resident of Glenwood Springs, Colorado, died after a prolonged illness on October 16, 2019 at the age of 73.

Scotty is survived by his sons, Edgar Scott and Weston Markham; three grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Lee; brother Donald “Donny” Scott; and mother of his children, Marlene Batzel. He is preceded in death by his father, Jack Newton Scott and his mother, Jane Daley Scott (nee MacMillan).

Scotty was born on September 18, 1946 in Denver, Colorado. He attended Western State College of Colorado and was a proud long-distance swimmer while enrolled. Scotty was a master mechanic for over 40 years and especially loved working on European vehicles. He also enjoyed tinkering with his Suzuki Samurai and regularly went 4-wheeling with it in the San Juan mountains. He was an avid skier and spent about 25 years making the young skiers of the Roaring Fork Valley chirp for gummy worms as a Buddy Werner instructor. Scotty had a generous spirit and opened his home to many within the community in addition to being a volunteer through Advocate Safehouse. Scotty was a lover of the arts and sang with the St. Barnabas and Good Shepherd churches in Glenwood Springs. He also did community theater and fondly remembered his role as Mr. Roat in a production of Wait Until Dark.

A memorial is not planned at this time. In accordance with Scotty’s rebellious nature, the family has agreed to quietly conduct a cremation at this time followed by a non-traditional memorial next summer during the 4-wheeling season. Scotty would love to go up Mt. Canby one last time.
