Debra Jean DeOnier died Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at St Mary's Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was 62 years old.
Deb was born to Leonard and Barbara J. Arnold Patten on December 30, 1958. She spent her childhood traveling around Colorado. Her father was a uranium miner and while traveling she learned to make authentic Indian Fry Bread, weave baskets, sew dolls and other crafts. She was a cheerleader at Carbondale High school. Soon after high school, while working at City Market, she met her husband.
On October 10, 1981, in Basalt, CO, she married William Michael DeOnier standing on a deck over the Frying Pan River. To this union three sons were born.
Deb was a homemaker. Grocery trips with her young sons would almost always entail more than two full carts that would feed nothing short of an army of her growing boys and their friends. She always had something cooking that was fresh from her garden or from the wellstocked pantry that held the previous year's bounty. There wasn't a cookbook or decorative plate that she didn't like.
She threw herself into her family's interests, whether it was Boy Scouts, BMX tournaments, several sports or one of the many family businesses, like 01' Buttercup, the ice cream shop. Her door was always open to family or friends. It was not unusual to find a family member or one, maybe two, of her son's friends living there. There were Christmases where the family would forego gifts to help someone in need. Her passion for cooking and helping others lives on in her sons and grandchildren.
Deb is survived by her husband, Mike, of Palisade; son Tom {Carrie) of Delta; son Tim {Heather) of Denver; son Tyrell {Becky) of Grand Junction; brother Dale Patten of McMinnville, OR; grandchildren, Colton, Madilynn, Calvin, Henry and soon to be born Baby DeOnier; a niece and several nephews.
Services will be announced at a later date.
