Dolores Day

January 27, 1931 — January 27, 2015

Born in Oklahoma City, OK on January 27, 1931 to Del Roy Franklin and Mattie Lois Smith Franklin, Dolores was the eldest of six children. She attended Oklahoma Baptist University where she met and later married Ernest Filson Day. She and her husband studied and became fluent in Spanish, as they felt God was calling them to reach out to the Spanish speaking people within our US borders. They served faithfully for 17 years with the Southern Baptist Mission Board where they worked start up missions in New Mexico and Colorado. Dolores also worked teaching ESL (English as a Second Language) classes in the elementary schools in northern New Mexico, a job that she treasured. Ernest and Dolores were parents to two sons and three daughters of their own, and were also foster parents to a number of young men and women who needed to be shown God's love and protection. Later in life, after leaving the mission field, Dolores continued her services to the church in the role of church secretary for churches in Dallas, TX and Bailey, CO. Dolores's passion was writing screenplays and directing church dramas. Well past the age of 80 she continued to write inspirational articles for adults and short stories for children.

Dolores is survived by her children Stephen Day and his wife Patsi, Deborah Oakes and her husband, Doug; Louis Day and his wife, Eileen; Omega Montoya and her husband, Miguel; Paloma Blan and her husband, Gerald. She also is survived by many grandchildren and great grand children.
