Donald J.Desmarais,87, passed away on January 3,2016 after a brief illness. Donald was born in Franklin, MA, the son of Clifford and Lillian(Cote) Desmarais. He grew up and lived in Franklin most of his life before spending the last eight years in Grand Junction, CO.
Donald graduated from Franklin High School. He was a proud veteran of the US Army having served as a Corporal with the Second Infantry Division, 72nd Tank Battalion, A Company in the Korean War. He was a Purple Heart recipient.
Donald had been employed as a Letter Carrier at the Franklin Post Office for many years. He also worked at Dean college.
Donald was a member of the Korean war Veterans Alliance, VFW Post 3402, and a long time parishioner at St. Marys Church.
He enjoyed any nature related activities including Bird-watching, walking,especially trapping in Mine Brook and fishing at Carver. He loved body surfing in the ocean and his Boston Bruins.
Donald was well liked and everyone enjoyed his stories and jokes.
He was predeceased in death by his son Paul J. Desmarais.
Donald is survived by his twin sister, Doris Platt of Seal Beach CA, son Todd(Roycelyn)Desmarais, of Grand Junction, Co, his daughter Nancy (James) White of Blackstone, MA and four grandchildren Joshua,Shannon,Donald and Baron, who brought him nothing but joy. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces.
Services will be Thursday January 14, 2016 @ 10:00 AM at The Parish Of St. Mary One Church Square Franklin, MA 02038, Inurnment to follow at St.Mary's Cemetery Beaver street.
