Donald Dean Ray age 94, died October 25, 2021 following a long illness. He was born on June 3rd, 1927, in Canadian, Texas to George Wesley Ray and Ona Idell Ray. He graduated from Delta High School in Delta, Colorado. He was a veteran in the U.S. Navy having served in World War II. He also served in the Colorado National Guard, Montrose Unit, for 25 years. He had worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company several years before working for the U.S. Postal Service for 26 years.
Donald was a member of the Elks Lodge in Montrose, Colorado. He loved fixing things and wood working. He was friendly and quite a jokester. He was a dedicated family man and always helping others.
He was preceded in death by his parents George W. Ray and Ona Idell Ray, two brothers George W. Ray II and Clyde Ray, and two sisters Dorothy Ritthaler and Wanda Pollock. He is also survived by his wife Ruth LaVrene Ray and four daughters Kathy Dechant, Eleanor Dechant (Dennis), Karen L’Argent (Neil), and Pamela Waibel (Keith). He also is survived by 6 grandchildren Jesse Dechant, Sandra Dechant, Luke Dechant, Andrew Dechant, Matthew Dechant, and Yance Waibel. He is also survived by 4 great grandchildren. He is also survived by two stepdaughters Angela Wetzbarger (Ray) and Tonya Pauls (Todd). He is also survived by six step grandchildren and eight step great grandchildren.
