Douglas T Powers passed away with his family by his side on May 10, 2021 in Grand Junction, CO. Born on November 23, 1959 in Casper, WY to Robert Powers and Elsie Powers (formerly Haas), Doug was the youngest of three brothers. When Doug was a young boy, the family relocated back to his mother’s place of birth in Western Colorado. As a young boy, he spent a lot of time helping on his grandparents’ farm in Rifle, CO. He loved sneaking the strawberries off the bushes just as they ripened and helping his Grandfather throw hay off the back of the truck.
Being the youngest of three boys, he learned a fierce sense of competition. Sports became a focal point of his youth. He was an avid sports fan and competitor, especially from the tee box. He golfed competitively for Grand Junction High School. Some of his favorite memories were the adventures that were had on the many travelling golf tournaments. The tournaments did not stop at high school. Doug continued to frequent the many golf courses and enter and excel in tournaments well into adulthood. Not only did he thrive on the course but also among the fellow competitors. He was always known to be the charismatic jokester inside the clubhouse. Doug’s sarcastic commentary and quick wit always made it easy for him to make friends. There was nary a place he went that he didn’t have a comrade. He also participated in the local softball leagues in the valley. During his down time, when Doug wasn’t playing softball or golf, he enjoyed attending sporting events and watching sports on TV. Go Cowboys, Royals and 76ers!
Doug was a handsome and charming man, which would be attested to by his ex-spouses who he continued to have a fondness and good relationship with. His first wife, Julie Landon, mothered his oldest daughter. Their marriage was followed by a long-term relationship with Tina Morlan who gave Doug two wonderful sons. After several great years, Doug was married to Rhonda Powers. Rhonda had her own children and together they had a beautiful, blended family. They later separated and Doug found himself with the kind and loving Kathy Powers until their divorce. Even though his marital journey was untraditional, love always remained between each of them. The women all remain friends to this day.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents, and survived by his brothers Robert Powers and Ron Powers and children Casey Conley, Thomas Powers and Shane Powers as well as his grandchildren Kade Conley and Campbell Conley.
A celebration of Doug’s life will be scheduled for later in the year in Grand Junction, CO.
