Douglas Leroy Smith   June 4, 1942 – December 7, 2021

Doug has been ill for many months.  He is survived by his wife, Anna of 52 years, son, Devin and daughter Christina Estep, son-in-law Mike Estep, grandsons, Michael and Joseph Estep and great grandson, Michael Kashdon Estep Castro.  He also is survived by Bill Hodson, brother-in-law, Kathy Tabuchi, and Debbie Coats, sisters-in-law.  He also had 2 brothers-in-law, Toby Romero and Mike Houghton. He is survived by many nieces and nephews.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, Charles C. Smith and Alta Edwards and brother, David Smith.  He is also preceded in death by brother-in-law, Bert Hodson, sisters-in-law, Monna Pepper, Linda Houghton and Betty Romero.  Doug graduated from Palmer High School, Colorado Springs, in 1961. Doug played lots of sports throughout his high school career and was the class treasurer.

Doug served in the United States Air Force from 1964 until his retirement in 1986.  He then worked for the State of Colorado at the Regional Center here in Grand Junction, then at the Veterans Nursing Home in Florence, Colorado  and finally at the School for the Deaf and Blind in Colorado Springs.

Doug loved to fish, camp and enjoy the wonderful creation that God provided for us.  He loved jazz and had a large collection of jazz albums.  He played the saxophone and keyboard for his own enjoyment. He had a collection of hats and chose a hat for the occasion. He enjoyed golf and had a yearly membership at Chipeta Golf Course where he rode his golf cart to and played as often as he could.

Doug loved his God, his Church and his family.  Doug was a member of Clifton Christian Church.  He will be missed by all those who loved him.
