Duane was born in Elgin, IL to Dorothy and Wilbert Kahling. He graduated from Palatine Township High School. He soon joined the Navy serving aboard the USS Taconic. He traveled extensively in Europe during his tour and also participated in the Cuban missile crisis. He later attended and graduated from South West Technical College for accounting. He had many careers in his life, working at Good Year tire company, construction, security, night clerking, finally retiring from the Daily Sentinel where he worked as the dock manager. He enjoyed books, coin and stamp collecting, antiques and traveling. He left behind many friends that had become family, namely Mary Franklin and her son Ben, Scott and Susan Hendricks and their children Caleb and Kaley. He leaves behind a sister, Beverley Offen, a daughter, Keri (Helms) Flynn and her husband Brandon, 3 grandchildren Logan, Dillon and Lily. He was a great friend, father and grandfather and will be forever missed. His remains will be interned at Memory Gardens in Arlington Heights, IL next to his father Wilbert.
