Edward Arthel Hodson

June 13, 1949 — October 24, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edward Arthel Hodson on October 24, 2024,  in Grand Junction, Colorado. Ed was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and a great friend to many.

Born on June 13, 1949, in Moab, Utah, Ed was the cherished son of the late William Arthel and Beverly Hodson Story. He spent his childhood in Dove Creek, Colorado, where his adventurous spirit blossomed. After graduating high school, he pursued his passion for automobiles at Mesa College (now Colorado Mesa University), becoming a skilled mechanic and a true craftsman.

For many years, Ed lived in Moab, where he owned and operated several businesses, including an auto and tire shop and a retail store, Painted Pony Trading Co. He later moved back to his hometown of Dove Creek, where he enjoyed many years living on his ranch, surrounded by the beauty of the Colorado landscape. In 2021, Ed and his wife, Leola, relocated to Grand Junction to be closer to his daughter, Danielle, and her family.

Ed was a steadfast patriot with a deep love for the outdoors, often spending his days hiking and searching for arrowheads—treasures of nature that reflected his appreciation for history. He was also an expert in firearms and cars, with a remarkable talent for designing, building, and restoring. His shop was his happy place, and his projects were his passion.

Ed found joy in watching college football and NASCAR or laughing at reruns of Seinfeld. He loved going on scenic drives and strolling downtown Grand Junction with Leola, where they would often stop for ice cream at their favorite spot, Enstroms. These simple moments brought him great happiness.

As a father and grandfather, Ed was unwavering in his love, encouragement, and support. He was an integral part of Danielle and her family’s lives. He attended every football and basketball game of his grandsons, Landon and Dawson. His pride in their accomplishments was evident, and his presence in their lives was a true blessing.

Ed leaves behind his wife, Leola; daughter Danielle (Chad) Hage; grandsons Landon and Dawson Hage; step-son Simon (Shannon) Vowell; grandsons Oakley (Samantha) Vowell and Porter Vowell; and his siblings: Bill (Cheri) Hodson, Jacque (Robert) Thompson, and Sandra Frazier.

Ed's infectious humor, wild creativity, huge heart, generosity, and adventurous spirit will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched. As we say goodbye, we celebrate a life well-lived and the many memories that will forever remain in our hearts.
