Edwin Roy Helmer, age 71, died February 2, 2017 surrounded by family in his home in Fruita, CO. He was born November 8, 1945 in Los Angeles, CA, the only child of Floyd Helmer and Bernice (Gruwell) Helmer. He lived most of his growing up years in Rosemead, CA graduating high school there in 1963. Ed served in the US Army. He started his working career as a city employee in San Gabriel, CA and the for Fremont, CA. He then spent many years working in lumber yards before buying a Montgomery Wards Catalog Store. When those stores closed, he moved to Colorado where he worked for the LDS Church for over 20 years. He married Pamela (Baldwin) Helmer November 10, 1967. They had three children, Jodi (Helmer) Nelson, Valerie Helmer and Jennifer (Helmer) Ronco. Ed loved going to the drag races, working on old cars and going to car shows. He spent many years doing remodeling projects, woodworking, and loved building children’s furniture for his grandchildren. Ed loved spending time traveling and playing with his grandchildren and teaching them about cars. He spent many years in the Blue Dot’s Car Club serving as treasurer and enjoyed all the activities with the car club. He is preceded in death by his grandson Troy Ronco. Ed is survived by his wife, Pam, daughters Jodi, Valerie and Jennifer, son-in-law David Ronco, grandchildren Andrew, Ben, Mike, Alex, Emily, Kyle, and great grandson Donovan Ronco. Ed’s sense of humor will be greatly missed by friends and family and imitated by all his grandsons. Funeral services will be Saturday February 11th at 11am at the Chuch of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Fruita, CO. Also full military honor service on February 13th at 1:00 pm at the Veteran’s Memorial Gardens in Grand Junction, CO
