Elizabeth Van Dorn

February 29, 1924 — May 18, 2020

Elizabeth Mary Miller (Davidson) Van Dorn, age 96, died peacefully in her sleep Monday, May 18, 2020 in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Born in Hayden, Colorado on February 29, 1924, she was the seventh of ten children born to Sterling Paul and Mattie V. Miller.  She attended the rural Elkhead school in Craig, Colorado and graduated from Craig high school in 1942.  She married Charles M. Davidson on March 19, 1944.  The following day Charles left for Europe as a soldier in the U S Army and spent two years serving his country in the European theater of WWII.  Charles and Elizabeth had four children, Dennis F. (Julie), Charles M. (Kelly), Sterling Dean (Diane), and Mary L. (Pat King).

Elizabeth was employed as an assistant to the Moffat Count Treasurer for numerous years.  Prior to that, she worked as an operator for the telephone company, and was the voice people heard in Moffat County saying “Number please”.    In April of 1986 Charles suddenly died of a heart attack.  After his death, she took many trips, traveling to places in the United States and other countries.  She especially enjoyed a trip to Scotland with one of her granddaughters and another trip to Alaska with another granddaughter.  In November of 1998, she married Perry Van Dorn.

Elizabeth was faithful to God, attending services regularly until she was unable to physically do so.    Her children all remember hearing her singing and humming her favorite hymns and ending each day by reading in her Bible.    One of her greatest joys was the time with her family.    She was somewhat quiet, but with a dry sense of humor which remained to the very end of her life.  She will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her four children, their spouses, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and  sister-in-laws Anna May Hutton of Fruita, CO , Wilma Miller of Hannibal, MO and Joyce Miller of North Pole, AK.

Services will be held later in the year.
