Elvert Oest

Dr. Elvert Edgar Oest, age 85, of Fruita passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at Mantey Heights Rehabilitation Center in Grand Junction. He was born September 6, 1929 in Sacramento, CA, as the son of the late Edgar Peter Oest (1893-1961) and Ruth Macy McPherson Oest (1904-1985). Elvert (Ed) married Lois Jean Simmons on September 9, 1950 and together they had four children; Gayleen, Kenneth, Thomas, and Timothy. He was preceded in death by his wife Lois Jean Simmons Oest on May 20, 1993. He married Florence Louise Cain in 1994. He graduated from High School in Auburn, California, earned his Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering degree at California Polytechnic State University at San Louis Obispo, California in 1955, the Master of Science in Engineering degree from California Coast University in 1976, and the Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering degree from California Coast University in 1980. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having served during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1956. He had been employed as a Registered Agriculture Engineer for many years at the U.S. Soil and Water Conservation Service in California and Hawaii. He left Hawaii to assist with agriculture in the country of Iran for 2 years. He then used his training and skills to consult and travel internationally before owning and running Irrigation Systems Company in Fruita, Colorado. He was a licensed minister of the gospel and would fill in for churches as needed. He was a member of the Gideon organization and an avid Bible student and teacher.
