Elwyn Johnston

December 28, 1930 — December 7, 2021

Elwyn (Bud) John Johnston, 90, of Fruita, CO passed away on December 07, 2021. Bud was born on December 28, 1930 in Scottsbluff, NE to Herb & Elsie Johnston.

Bud had a variety of passions and careers. He loved the desert and grew up living the cowboy life around the Grand Valley and in Cisco and Professor Valley, UT. He went to high school at Fruita Union and graduated with his class. Bud joined the Air Force from 1948-1951; he went all over the world and returned home to raise his boys. Shortly after, he met Patricia Dove and they married in 1955. Bud and Patricia grew their family with the addition of two daughters. In addition to his cowboy days and service time, Bud also worked on the initial construction of Monument Canyon Trail on the Colorado National Monument; he was a postman, cemetery caretaker, logger, and handyman — to name a few. Bud served in many callings within the LDS church. He enjoyed nature and the simple things; above all, he enjoyed and cherished his loved ones.

He is preceded in death by his parents and Brother Arthur. Bud is survived by his wife of 66 years (Patricia); siblings Fern, Levi, and Lynne; sons John and Jerry (Rodye) daughters DeAnna (Travis) and Christa (Michael); grandchildren Emily, Rob, Pamela, Ty, Lysandra (who he raised as his own), James, Joshua, Sarah, Billie, Kaylie, and Kylie; and great grandchildren Hunter, Stella, Laura, and Kasen.
