Emery Thomas Atchison, born January 23 1941, to Charley Lee Atchison and Meckie Faye Chrisco in Grand Junction, Co.
He was the youngest of 5 siblings and was 7 years from the closest one. He spent his younger years doing farm work for his dad and the neighbors. But as he grew older, cars became his love interest, and racing them was his passion. His class, the class of 1959 was the first class to graduate from Central High School.
He soon married JoNell Masters who bore him 4 children, Emery Norman, Wanda, Kenneth Eric, and Casey. To which JoNell told him, they were just his playthings when he came home from work. They later divorced.
Emery started doing work on trailer houses, skirting and canopies. After a while Emery got his first Sonic job, which he didn't think was too bad, and started going around the country repairing Sonic canopies. Then he started building Sonic canopies, which took him from Homestead, Florida to Cotatie, California, to Rappahanic, Virginia, and all states in between.
In 1980 he met Myrna., which gained him another daughter and son. Together they owned Valley Refrigeration, and Myrna ran it while Emery went on the road. In 1989 Emery was involved in a one car accident that fractured his face, and he underwent numerous surgeries to repair the damage done. But he healed and they closed Valley Refrigeration, and Myrna went on the road with him, when all the kids graduated from high school.. This lasted until 2010 when the steel got to heavy for Emery to handle, so he just kept the western slope Sonics repaired for the next few years.
Emery loved to hunt and fish. He would get the boys up at 4 in the morning to go hunting, and then had to take a nap before they left, which didn't set to well with the boys. But everyone lived through it. He eventually went hunting with the great grandsons, which was a lot of fun because they are excellent shooters. He especially liked to go fishing, whether it was creek fishing, or lake fishing, it was always fun.
Emery loved all the kids and the grandchildren and great grandchildren, they brought him a lot of happiness
