Floyd Greenfield

July 4, 1937 — November 25, 2018

On Sunday, November 25, 2018, Floyd Walter (Flip) Greenfield passed from this life at the age of 81.

He was born on July 4, 1937, in Denver, Colorado to Verna Greenfield and spent his childhood living with her in Eastern Colorado until the time of her death.  After her death, Flip went to live with extended family, finally settling in his aunt Margaret’s home in Arvada, CO.  He graduated from high school in 1954, and at the age of 17, was drafted into the United States Army.  He completed boot camp at Fort Bliss and was honorably discharged after four years of service.

Flip returned to the United States and began raising a family. He worked in construction, drove a truck and finally found his passion in ranching.  Flip was a true cowboy.  He rose early, worked late and always seemed to know what to do with a hard-headed horse or cow.  You could always find him working with one of his trusty border collies.  He was tough, but fair and never expected more from others that he was willing to do himself.  His sense of humor was unmatched, He was a jokester who looked for opportunities to pull a good-natured prank on some unexpecting soul. He never met a stranger and had a unique way with people.

In retirement, Flip played as hard as he had worked.  He enjoyed spending time with the love of his life, Dema.  They fished, camped and spent time with their kids and grandkids.  His sense of humor, bright eyes, and mischievous grin will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

Flip was preceded in death by his mother.  He is survived by his wife Dema, his 6 children, Cory, Lisa, Shelly, Denny, Leslie and Mandy.  13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  A celebration of life will be held on December 8, 2018, from 1:00 to 5:00 PM at 812 Tahiti Drive Grand Junction, CO 81506.  Flowers or donations may be sent to 812 Tahiti Drive Grand Junction, CO 81506.

A special thanks to the staff at Hopewest Hospice for providing Flip and his family with the highest level of compassion and care during his final days. Additionally, thanks to Brown’s Cremation Service for the compassionate service they provided at his passing.
