Frank Killian Schuhmann, 80, died on July 27th, 2021, following a long illness.
Born on September 30th, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of the late Frank and Mary Schumann.
Frank graduated from Luther High School South in Chicago in 1958. He received his E.E. degree from the University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign in 1963. From San Jose St. University at San Jose, CA, he earned his MBA (1969) and from the University of Colorado Boulder he was awarded his D.B.A. in 1972.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served as Lt.jag during the Vietnam war (1963-1966).
Frank taught business courses at many colleges and universities: University of Hawaii, Idaho State University, Lewis & Clark College, Portland State University, and University of Portland. He also founded and ran five business related companies in Portland, Oregon and Seattle, Washington. While in Seattle, Frank worked for Management Action Progress as seminar leader and sales consultant.
In Portland, he was a member of the Rose City Yacht Club, Willamette Athletic Club and Willamette Sailing Club.
Frank loved most sports and outdoor activities, but sailing was his passion. He had at least 25 years of sailing/race experience and owned five sailboats plus chartering some 12 others.
After retirement he did volunteer work for Habitat for Humanity and the Community Food Bank in Grand Junction, Colorado.
Frank is survived by his wife of 56 years, Phillis, his son Kenneth and two sisters: Rosemary and Helen who reside in the Chicago area.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 8th at 10:00 am at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado.
