Gerald “Gerry” James Grover, 93, went Home to Heaven on February 12, 2018 in Grand Junction, Colorado. Born on August 13, 1924 in Aspen, Colorado, Gerald was the youngest son of Edward James Grover and Charlotte Anna Louise Koch Feist Grover. Gerald attended and graduated from Aspen High School in Aspen, Colorado in 1943.
He was a veteran of the US Army having served as a Sergeant (Tec 4) during World War II. Gerry had been employed as an X-ray Technologist at the Grand Junction Veteran’s Hospital for 33 years. During this time, he was raising a family and participating in church events, mainly heading the youth group activities. He was also on a Veteran’s Hospital baseball team for a brief time.
Throughout his life, Gerry enjoyed watching and playing sports, making toys for and playing with his four daughters, as well as playing house or school with his 8 grandchildren and telling stories to the great-grandchildren. Gerry was known as the playful jokester of the family and community. He never went anywhere without telling someone a joke! Gerry was a man of God and he valued family, prayer, laughter, and humanitarianism. Growing up, Gerry would sneak down the road to his Grammy’s house to enjoy a cup of coffee after his parents told him he was not allowed to have any. He also enjoyed grabbing his wooden skis after school and skiing with his buddies. He loved playing marbles and card games. Gerry was also a trained baton twirler, participating with his high school band and in twirling competitions.
Gerry was proceeded in death by his wife, Doris Ilene Coward Grover, and his daughter, Kathleen Ann Grover Detter.
