It saddens us to announce that our dear family member Gilbert Lee Sanchez died August 9, 2023 following a hard battle with cancer. He has and will be dearly missed.
Gilbert was born in Leadville, Colorado. He was born to Gilberto Sr. Sanchez of Questa, New Mexico, and Rose Yslas of Grand Junction, Colorado.
Most will remember Gilbert as the amazing mechanic that he was. Some even say he was a genius at his job. He literally could solve any problem with an engine. Always having the motto "Its usually something small, try that first".
He definitely had a love for cars that everyone could see, especially the classics. He owned a handful he built on his own, and was proud to show them off on the street. Everyone would stand back in amazement when they saw Gilbert with his talent, and that talent he was proud to pass on to his son.
Gilbert loved getting together with family and friends. Spending time eating and laughing around the table brought joy and warmth to his heart. He loved his wife and cherished his children, and the thought of them leaving home was very hard for him to accept. He loved his family close.
Gilbert was a very generous man, who welcomed anyone into his home. He loved his friends and many times went above and beyond to give them the shirt of his back as they say. He never really valued material things, he felt friends and family meant most.
He had a love for animals and always had a favorite boxer dog by his side.
Gilbert is survived by his Wife Sandy Sanchez, his daughters Katelyn Manzanares, Marissa Sanchez, and son Danté Sanchez. He was also happy to have his little granddaughters Nova Lee, Ezrah and London Manzanares. He loved his sister Gina, and she was with him until the end. Many other family members on both parents sides loved him and will miss him dearly.
