Gloria Dawn Hill

Gloria Dawn Hill, age 84, passed away on Wednesday August 23rd, 2023, at Hope West Hospice Care Center in Grand Junction, Colorado in the company of loved ones.

Dawn was born July 1st, 1939 in Gillman, CO to Walter Hester and Mona Fay Norwood. During her formative years, Dawn moved across Colorado with her family as her father, Walter, worked for the Colorado Department of Transportation eventually settling in Grand Junction. Dawn was a member of the graduating class of Grand Junction High School in 1957, and shortly thereafter married Capper Dwane Hill on December 21st, 1957. Dawn and Dwane had a daughter, Yolanda (Lonnie) Dawn, in 1959 and then a son, Kevin Dwane, in 1962.

Dawn spent her career working in manufacturing for Spartan’s and then later at Marmot Mountain Works as assistant to the co-founder, before retiring to travel the country in her fifth-wheel RV, anywhere from Texas to Alaska. Dawn and Dwane spent time at Lake Powell, Utah every year and enjoyed regular visits to Quartzsite, Arizona and McPhee Reservoir. She was a skilled crocheter and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Dawn is preceded in death by her husband, Dwane (9/21/2020), and her sister Shanda Leah Baldwin (10/30/2009), and is survived by her children Lonnie Crown (Gary) and Kevin Hill (Gidget). She is survived by grandchildren Justin Hill (Cayla Kemper), Shannon Freeman (Jason), Stephanie Champlin (Matthew), and Christopher Hulsey (Hannah), and great-grandchildren Lukas and Kylah Freeman, Makena and Miley Champlin, and Laila and Archer Russell, and June Hulsey.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday September 1^st, 2023, at Palisade Municipal Cemetery. There will be a gathering immediately afterwards for family and friends at the Eagles Aerie 595 at 1674 US 50 Grand Junction, CO.
