Gregory (Greg) Edward Stephen, 72, of Grand Junction, CO, after a 2 year valiant battle with pancreatic cancer, passed away on October 21 peacefully in his home surrounded by family.
Greg was a great husband and father, an awesome grandfather, and a mentor to many. If you were to ask anyone that knew him what they remembered the most about Greg, most would say that it was his sense of humor, as he did his best to make light of many a situation. Others would say that it was his brilliant smile. He could light up even the darkest of rooms, as most times you could find him beaming from ear to ear about one thing or another.
He loved his Browns, Indians, Broncos, and Rockies, but most of all he loved his family, taking every opportunity he could get to spend time with his kids and grandkids.
Greg was born on October 28, 1947 to Robert and Irene Stephen in Cleveland, OH. After graduating from St. Edwards High School he went on to attend Franciscan University of Steubenville in Steubenville, OH majoring in Accounting. Upon earning his degree, Greg joined the United States Air Force as a Cartographer during the Vietnam War from 1970 to 1973, achieving the rank of Sergeant.
In 1972, he met the love of his life, Kathryn Ruth Seibert. They travelled the country with the Air Force and eventually settled down in central Missouri. Greg served as an Accountant for several companies but felt a greater calling to head west, and in 1989 moved his family to Grand Junction where he spent the next 31 years.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Kathy, brothers Gary (North Royalton, OH), Carl (Strongesville, OH), and Timothy (Lakewood, OH); children Bryan (Cheri), Scott (Andrea), and Brett (Ashley) of Grand Junction and Lindsay of Brooklyn, NY, and grandchildren David (Callista), Alexander, Preston, Julia, Kate, and Sydney.
A memorial mass will be held for Greg at Immaculate Heart of Mary church on November 5 at 10 AM followed by his interment at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado following full military honors at 1 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either the Grand Junction Small Business Incubator where Greg loved what he did supporting the community for 16 years, or Immaculate Heart of Mary church.
