Herbert Ralph (Herbie) Tinkle

09/18/1937 - 02/06/2022

Herbert Ralph (Herbie) Tinkle was born 09/18/1937 to Thomas Ralph and Alvaretta Ruth (Fairchild) Tinkle in Leadville, Colorado.  He passed away and joined his beloved wife Ruth (Shorty), just 2 months following her passing.

He was the the third of five children, with his two older sisters Violet (Leroy)Travis and Betty (Don) Babion preceding him.  He has two younger brothers, both surviving, Robert (Bobby) (Lynn) and Dale (Ann)Tinkle. After Graduating High School, he joined the Marines to serve his Country and following that service, he returned to Leadville and met the love of his life and Wife of 59 ½ years, Ruth Ann (Hogan) Tinkle.  Soon thereafter, they moved to Arvada, Colorado where he began his 32 year career as an engineer with Public Service (Excel Energy). In 1977 they moved to Grand Junction, Colorado then eventually to Fruita, Colorado. Together they raised their four children Eddie (Vicky) Tinkle, Kristie (Mark) Gomez, Cindy (Doug) Barnett, Melody (Ed) Lundquist.  They have 10 grandchildren, Chris (Corrie), Alicia, Quinton, Tenneya (Joseph), Kelsi (Jonathan), Mauri (Mason), Alex, Tori, Addy, and Erik and 4 ½ great grandchildren, Emma, Ridge, Ryker, Colton and Baby Boy Rains being added to the line-up in May.

Herbie was a true servant and example of Christ’s Love.  He worked tirelessly for many years making sure that all kids could attend Colorado Christian Youth Camp, where he fed hundreds of campers.  Because there were so many, and he couldn’t remember all their names, all the kids became “Fred”.

We will celebrate his life, with a Church service at Patterson Rd. Church of Christ, on  Wednesday Feb 23, 2022 at 11:00am, with a Military burial following at the Veterans Cemetary at 1:00pm.

We find comfort in knowing that they are together again and can picture them eating ice cream and watching their beloved Colorado and Grand Junction Rockies.

Because of his (and her) love for children, please make any donations to the Children With Hope Foundation, with the following link  http://www.childrenwithhope.org/.  or mail checks to Children With Hope - 627 24 ½ Rd. Suite D Grand Junction, CO 81505
