Hidenori Takaki (Hide, Takaki-san, and Chief) passed away surrounded by loved ones on Monday, May 13th, 2024, following a courageous 17-month battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born on November 25th, 1953, on an American military base in Okinawa, Japan. Hidenori was the second son (third of five children) of the late Kazuo and Ise Takaki.
Hidenori was a mischievous child who loved pranks and was a rambunctious boy. As he grew up, he became serious and strong in his sense of justice, admired by teachers and classmates alike, with good academic performance and was an athlete. In middle school and high school, he was part of the volleyball team, and during his high school years, he served as the student council president. He was very popular among the female students, and on Valentine’s Day, he received many chocolates as gifts from them, bringing home a large amount of these chocolates every year.
After graduating from high school, he left his hometown of Kikaijima, Japan and his family to study at university in Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture.
Hidenori often paired up with his sister Kiwako, who was two years older than him, to help around the house and with the family’s farming business. Therefore, although Kiwako and Hidenori often fought, they were very close.
Hidenori had liked America since he was a child and often said he wanted to live there.
At the age of 22, he went to America, where he later met Debbie, got married, gained a daughter, and welcomed three more daughters.
Hidenori was employed with The New Yorker Hotel in various positions since immigrating to America and ended his impressive 47-year career as Property Operations & Administrator in the hospitality industry. He also volunteered for all The New Yorker Hotel’s walkathons.
He enjoyed traveling, walking in nature, reading books, and listening to music.
He was outgoing, kind, friendly, compassionate, and funny. He had an unmatched work ethic that he instilled in his daughters.
He is survived by his brothers, Kenichi Takaki of Tokyo, Japan and Masafumi Takaki of Kikaijima, Japan; sister, Michiko Takaki of Palmira City, Columbia; four daughters: Stephanie (David) Heald of Grand Junction, Colorado; Kimberly Takaki of Laramie, Wyoming; Caroline (Corey) Takaki-Simon of Grand Junction, Colorado; and ChiYun Takaki of Grand Junction, Colorado; and three grandchildren: Corynn Simon of Grand Junction, Colorado; Ethan Heald of Grand Junction, Colorado; and Kashlynn Simon of Grand Junction, Colorado.
