Jacinto Rivera, Age 89, was Born in San Ysidro, New Mexico on September 20, 1924. He Passed away on September 5, 2014, at the VA Hospital in Grand Junction Colorado.
He married Virginia Duran of Monte Vista soon after returning from the service, they were married 68 years. They settled in Minturn, CO in 1955 where he worked for the New Jersey Zinc Mine in Gilman, CO until it shut down. He and his family later moved to Fruita, CO in 1998. Jacinto was discharged with honors from the US Army. He served as a sharp shooter where he operated the sub machine gun and also the 105 Hauser Cannon. He spent twenty-two months in the Philippines and three months in Hiroshima soon after the Atomic Bomb.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia, of Fruita, Son David (Lucy) Rivera of Grand Junction, Son Anthony (Ceryla) Rivera of Glenwood Springs, CO, Daughters Jacqueline (Jose) Calvillo of Fruita, CO. Six grandchildren and three great grandchildren He loved hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling and most of all playing pool with his buddies!
