James Patty

Jim passed away at the age of 91, at the Center at Foresight in Grand Junction, Colorado. Jim was born to James T. and Nellie J. (Srite) Patty on May 7, 1930, in Denver, Colorado. He graduated from Arvada High School in 1948. After graduation, he enlisted in the army and was honorably discharged in January of 1953 with the rank of Corporal. After leaving the service Jim worked on the Kansas Turpike in the Emporia, Kansas area as an inspector and surveyor. He lived in Emporia at the time and there he met and married Thelma E. Dilts July 31, 1955. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Dilts. In 1958 they moved to Greeley, Colorado to work for Nelson Haley Patterson and Quirk Engineering Consultants. The company transferred the family to Grand Junction, Colorado in 1969. Then in 1976, Jim went to work for Paragon Engineering until 1983, and Rolland Engineering for a few years after that before working for the Grand Junction Drainage District until retirement in 1997. In the 70’s and through the 80’s, Jim was one of the most respected Land Surveyors on the Western Slope. After retirement, Jim enjoyed playing golf with his good friend, Bob, and fishing with his wife up at Vega reservoir.

Jim is survived by his wife of 66 years Thelma, his son Tim (Cindy) and grandson Bud of Grand Junction. Son Todd (Chris) and grandsons Shawn, Colin, and Evan of Peoria, Arizona, sister Mary Lou Patty Klipple of Surprise, Arizona, sister-in-law Ollie Fowler of Emporia, Kansas, brother-in-law Kenneth (Donna) Dilts of Kansas City, Kansas, and many nieces and nephews. Upon Jim’s request there will be no service.
