James Truman Skinner, age 82, died July 4, 2021 as a result of several health issues.
Born July 15, 1938 in Glen Rock, Wyoming, he was the son of James and Mildred Skinner. After his father’s death in 1941, his mother moved to San Antonio, Texas, where he grew up with his younger sister, Juanita. He married Wanda Washick in 1958 and they moved to Colorado with their 2 children, Debbie and Jim. They divorced in 1964. He married Sharoyn Enchoff in 1966. After her death he adopted her 2 children, Rhonda and Mike. He then married Cheryl Berkshire and they divorced in 1983. He married Shirley Spencer in 1985. They lived in San Jose for 16 years and moved to Palisade in 2000. They “snowbird” in Arizona for 6 months yearly.
Jim worked for 3M Company as a Sales Manager in the Data Recording Division for 38 years. After retirement he was principal of New Horizons School for Homeless children in Aptos, CA.
Fishing and astronomy were his two passions, in addition to camping and boating. He founded the Palisade Astronomy Club and worked with students in Grand Junction and Avon, as well as voluntarily hosting star gazing parties at Vega State Park and the National Monument.
Jim was dedicated to his family, and he was a great provider. He was proud to be an American and followed politics closely. Jim had a great sense of humor and his “Skinnerisms” were frequently quoted by others. He loved to entertain, and would become the life of the party.
James Skinner was preceded in death by his parents and sister. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; sons James (Shamaine) Skinner, Byers, CO., and Michael Skinner (Melody), Clayton, CA; daughters Debbie (Robert) Swick, Littleton, CO., and Rhonda (Curt) Creager, Longmont, CO. Grandchildren are Owen Swick, Alex Swick, Andrew (Jenna) Skinner, Branden (Sarah) Skinner, Morgan Skinner, Austin Skinner, Travis Ritz, Kelley Ritz, Scott Creager, Cody Creager, Ginny Creager ; 4 great-grandchildren: Madyson Swick, and Taylor, Drake, and Brayden Skinner.
