James Stevens

December 15, 1937 — January 30, 2021

James (Jim) Stevens, having been known and loved as a truly definite character, entertaining storyteller & musician among his friends and family, will be greatly missed by all who know him. Jim grew up in Plano Illinois with his parents Floyd and Ellna Stevens and brothers Bill, Dave and sisters Kathryn and Faye. Jim and family moved to Pueblo, Colorado during his teen years in the early 1950's and he soon after joined the Navy and served on the U.S.S Salem, stationed primarily in the Mediteranian. He successfully held the Underway Helmsman title for much of his time aboard the ship during & after the Korean war. Once back home in Colorado Jim married and supported his family as a local professional songwriter, guitarist and vocalist. His band "Music Gallery" entertained the Denver area for many years in the 60's, 70's and 80's. They played all over the city including the Elks Clubs and The Four Seasons Hotel along with many other venues. Their music covered classic Country and Rock n Roll genres of the 40's through to the 80's era.  Jim was a handy and capable man who was also talented in carpentry of which he built on additions, and garages onto multiple homes that he owned, he enjoyed golf, fishing and travel. Later in the early 1990's he moved to the high mountains of Texas Creek Colorado, near the Royal Gorge on 7 acres of open land next to the Sangre De Cristo Mountains. He was a lover of nature and exploration most of his later life and spent close to 30 years in the area. Jim continued to make music and new friends while residing in Tx Creek Co for many years happy to call the Rocky Mountains his home. In the last two decades Jim spent his time sharing life and stories with his partner Carol with whom, together they resided in Cotopaxi Co next to the Arkansas River and enjoyed numerous visits from close friends and family near and far for many years. Together they later settled in Fruita Co in 2014 where Jim kept in contact with all who he had cherished over the years and who cherished his humor, sassy intelligence and good old fun n games. James Stevens was a true friend to many and we all celebrate him, his Service and the life he shared with all of us! Jim is survived by his loving daughters & their families of Denver Co., his sister Faye & her family of Denver Co. & his brother Bill & family living in Thailand. He will be greatly missed...   Until we all meet again!
