Jeffrey Lynn Hamilton, Born October 21, 1947, aged 77, passed away December 3rd in his home from complications of COPD.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, December 14th, at 4:00 PM at Calvary Bible Church, 629 27 ½ Road, Grand Junction, CO.
His mother Avice and his step-father Fred Siebott, his brother Greg Hamilton and his sister-in-law Jane, all of Craig, CO, precede him in death. His father Melvin Hamilton died when Jeff was just a boy.
Jeff is survived by His wife of 35 years, Paula Van Hooser Hamilton, his children Noelle Blair, Nikole and her husband Toby Axelsson, Ian Johnson and his wife Gail. His grandchildren include Aubrie Blair and her wife McKenna Fraley, McKenna Blair, Hannah and her husband Bradley Haley, Emilie and her husband Kody Prather, Abby Johnson and her partner Chase Rochester, and twins Luke and Brooke Johnson. Jeff had two great-grandchildren, Lucia Haley and Cooper Rochester.
Jeff graduated from Moffat County High School in 1965 and attended the University of Wyoming for 3 years.
Hunter S. Thompson described Jeff well when he wrote, “Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming “Wow! What a Ride!”
Jeff lived a wild and adventurous life, repeatedly defying death fighting type 1 diabetes and COPD. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting, guns, fishing, camping, and sports, and he always had a joke on the ready. His family knows he only made it to his 77th year with the help of his wife Paula, his horse, Smokey, and a few exhausted Guardian Angels.
He performed a myriad of roles including as a husband, father, and grandfather. He studied as a pharmaceutical student, patrolled as a policeman, delivered Pepsi, and sold hardware in his dad’s store. He owned a security service, sold cars, and installed cable and security systems. However, the role he seemed to relish most in recent years involved his faith. He poured over his Bible daily, often lamenting the years he spent without his Lord, and eagerly sharing the gospel with anyone who would listen. His family rests in the knowledge that Jeff’s adventures continue with his friend, Jesus, but his time with a whole body that breathes easily and with perfect blood sugar. But Jesus, whatever you do, don’t pull his finger.
