Jessie Marie Reeves of Grand Junction, CO passed away of natural causes on October 24, 2021.
Jessie was born to Raymond and Juanita Martinez, in Moab, Utah on November 16, 1955. She was the fifth born of the six Martinez’ children. Jessie and her siblings spent their child and adolescent years in Moab & Monticello.
As a young teenager, Jessie met the love of her life. Agustus Reeves, Sr (Gus) was an Army service man working at the local military base and it wasn’t long before he swept her off her feet. Gus and Jessie got married in August of 1970. Soon after being married, the newly weds moved to Oklahoma with Patricia (Gus' daughter from a previous marriage). It was there where Gus and Jessie would welcome their son, Agustus Jr, whom they lovingly called “Junior”.
While Gus Sr was in the military, the family moved several times, they lived in Oklahoma, Washington, Germany and Utah. Jessie was most often a housewife and stay at home mom for Junior and Patricia but as the children got older, she worked in the hotel service industry. After Gus retired, they moved to Grand Junction, CO where she continued to work until many years later, when she had a career ending injury.
Jessie loved her family very much, she had a very caring and giving personality. She was pretty quiet and shy on the surface but once you got to know her, a whole other side would emerge and she would surprise you with her child-like joking and infectious laughter. She was often found sneaking the kids ‘a couple of bucks’ or a pocketful of something that was full of sugar. Jessie loved to drink her coffee, read, ‘have a smoke’ and visit in person or on the phone with the people she loved. Jessie and her mom were very close and had a very special bond, they were always smiling, giggling, joking around and giving each other ‘the nod’ – you know, in that secret language kind of way!
Jessie is survived by her son (Gus, Jr), step daughter (Patricia), brothers (Karl and Jerry), sister in law (Charlotte), Grandchildren (Josh, Jordon, Tyler, Tasia, Salome Jr, Emilio, Max and Kysha), Great Grandchildren (Xaidynn, Silas, Summer, Winter, Dayton, Bella, Cece, Alejandra) as well as numerous extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband (Gus, Sr), dad (Raymond), mom (Juanita), sister (Lucille), brothers (Clifford and Baby Boy) and grandsons (Jason Ori and Jeffrey David).
Jessie will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends, but we are certain she is happily reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband, mother, siblings and grandchildren.
