Jimmie Gale Colwell (Jim) passed peacefully on September 19, 2020, surrounded by family in Grand Junction, Colorado- in the home of his eldest daughter, Carol.
Much accustomed to time on the road as a truck driver, Jim made a final trek across the country from El Paso, TX to Colorado as fulfillment of his final wish. Family traveled from three states to be by his side to comfort him as he found peace at the base of the Rockies.
Jimmie was born to Luke and Medie Colwell on September 9, 1940 in Collingsworth County, near Wellington, Texas. Soon after Jimmie was born, his father, Luke, shipped out to join forces in WWII.
As a 4 year old, Jimmie learned his father would return home from WWII, He eagerly made his bed directly at the front door of their home and held post making sure he’d be the first to greet his father on his return. Jim later became a loving, doting, and patient older brother of two younger sisters Linda and Vicki. A prankster, his sisters fondly remember the antics of their Bubba - a practiced snipe hunt leader.
After graduation Jim moved to El Paso, Texas and married Marilyn Arver in 1960 and together they had three daughters, Carol, Kim and Gayle, all born in El Paso.
JIm began a very successful career in the grocery business. First with Tri-State Wholesale Grocery and then with Skaggs Grocery. He spent 20 years in management. Leaving the grocery career in 1992, He began his second career as a long-haul truck driver with Schneider Trucking. He spent 19 years traveling the US and Canada always making sure he visited his parents, sister, and kids scattered across the US. He drove much more than a million miles and loved seeing the scenery.
Jim made his home with his second wife Ruth Shiveley Colwell, in El Paso, where he gained a daughter, Susan, and a son, Doug.
Jim was a wonderful son-in-law ,having a special bond with Nana. (Ruth's mother) He always made sure they had their evening fudge bars, even packing a cooler to take to Nana when she was in the hospital. Nana always told Jim, “you are my favorite son-in-law.”
Jim was a loving Grandpa to Lauren, Royce, Nathan, Carley, Luke & Kacie and an even more loving, doting Great Grandpa to Carter, Axel and Kylie
Jim enjoyed collecting and trading anything connected to beer. He was a proud member of the Beer Can Collectors of America. He enjoyed many exciting beer adventures with his best friend Jeff.
He was also a die hard Dallas Cowboy fan.
