Jimmie Joe “JJ” Leyerly passed away suddenly at St Mary’s Hospital March 14, 2020. JJ was born July 28, 1954 in Gallup, NM to James Dale and Betty Jo Leyerly. His family moved to Farmington, NM when he was 6 years old. His childhood and young adult years were spent in Farmington. He was a graduate of Farmington High School. He worked in the oil field trucking industry his entire life. In 1977 his oil field job brought him to Grand Junction. He met his wife and life partner of 42 years, Judy while on a job in Wagon Mound, NM. Jimmie’s life was lived out here in the Grand Valley that he loved. He is survived by his wife Judy, 2 sons William Dean and Joseph Dale as well as 2 grandsons Tucker and Tate. He is also survived by his sister Sharon Lofstrom of Grand Junction,his “adopted” Mom Gloria McCleneghan as well as numerous nieces, nephews and close friends he considered family. Jimmie was a people person and never met a stranger. He loved hunting, golfing, bowling, 4 wheeling with Judy and the outdoors. He especially enjoyed trips with Judy to Wagon Mound, NM to attend and participate in annual events there. He also loved spending time in Ridgeway, CO, and was planning to spend his and Judy’s retirement years there. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Bill Leyerly. He will live on in those special memories of his family and friends. Due to mandatory closure of public gathering places, a celebration of Jimmie’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to American Cancer Society.
