Joan Mckendry

Donald “Donnie” Herman McKendry, a Korean War Veteran, was born and raised in Golden, Colorado.  Married his high school sweetheart, Joan Elizabeth McClelland in 1955.  Joan was born in Missouri but lived the majority of her life in Colorado.

Don was a home builder and land developer.  Joan supported him as his secretary and bookkeeper.  Don loved telling jokes and his laughter at his own jokes was contagious.  His generosity to others knew no bounds.  Joan loved others with a servant’s heart and taught her family a work ethic that “always left the campground better than you found it.”  She had the gift of hospitality and her specialty was pie!  Peach cobbler a la mode, banana cream and coconut cream.

Don and Joan stayed married 60 plus years, through the good times and the challenges.  They both had a great love and commitment to family.  They had 5 children, 16 grandchildren and to this date 25 great grands!  While we miss them and they leave a big void in our hearts, we are comforted by the fact that they are in heaven with their youngest son, Patrick.  They would definitely tell all of us to “get here…it’s the best.”
