JoAnne Hoggan LaVine, 84, of Grand Junction, CO, passed away on April 19, 2024. She was born on August 13, 1939, in East Ely, Nevada, to the late Annie Vione Morley and Ernest Willoughby Hoggan. JoAnne was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
She was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and found great joy in her faith. She served in many callings including Primary Teacher, Activity Days Leader, Young Women’s President, Relief Society President, Director of a Multi-Stake Family History Center, a Family History Consultant, and an Ordinance Worker. JoAnne's strong testimony of her Savior Jesus Christ was a cornerstone of her life.
In her leisure time, JoAnne loved genealogy and Family History, creating scrapbooks, and embarking on new adventures with her family. One of her signature sayings was “don’t be governed by your fears.” This is how she lived her life, and whether it was riding a motorcycle from Salt Lake City to Lake Tahoe, or riding the “skyrocket” swing at Lagoon, she was always up for a good time, and wanted to be on the front line of everything. She loved a good laugh that shook your insides and brought a tear to one’s eye. Her vibrant spirit and love for life were evident to all who knew her.
JoAnne was a Master Electronic Assembler with an illustrious career. She worked for various companies, including Litton Guidance and Control, Systems Engineering, Tektronix, and Millennium Industries. Eventually, she founded her own business, which she named after her grandchildren at the time, Jerahko Enterprises, where she built components for Ball Aerospace, NCAR, as well many commercial products. JoAnne's dedication and passion for her work were truly admirable.
JoAnne is survived by her loving husband, David LaVine, children Machel (Dan), Russell, Shannon, Marc (Jennifer), and their families, as well as her sister, Kathleen Calder, brother-in-law, Gary LaVine, sister-in-law, Rebecca LaVine, 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Pauline Peterson, brother-in-law, Russell LaVine, and daughter, Melinda.
A funeral service will be held on April 27, 2024, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Grand Junction Stake Center, located at 2881 Orchard Avenue, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501. The visitation will begin at 10:00 am, with the funeral service following at 11:00 a.m. She will be interred at Grand Junction Memorial Gardens, immediately following the service. Brown's Cremation & Funeral Service in Grand Junction, CO, is assisting the family with arrangements.
